MANILA, Philippines – The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) has advised travelers passing through the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 to wear light garments and bring fans as NAIA 3’s air conditioning system is currently unavailable.

“We humbly advise our T3 users to wear light clothes, bring fans, and to hydrate, to further mitigate the expected warm temperature at the terminal,” MIAA General Manager Eric Jose Ines said in a statement on Friday, August 23.

Airport authorities noted high operational temperature of Chillers 1, 2, and 4 on Thursday, August 22, forcing the temporary shutdown. The MIAA said they are currently troubleshooting their cooling system to “prevent potential major damage.”

The MIAA expects to finish the troubleshooting process by Saturday morning, August 24, and have “improved temperature levels” by noon.

“We appreciate the patience and understanding of our T3 users as we work through this necessary troubleshooting process,” Ines said.

For now, cooling fans have been distributed around affected areas at the terminal.

Airport authorities are trying to figure out what caused the problem. Descaling, cleaning, and swabbing of the affected chillers are underway.

This is not the first time airport authorities had problems with the air-conditioning system at Manila’s airports. In June 2024, NAIA Terminal 2’s power fluctuations knocked out the air-conditioning system, to the discomfort of thousands of passengers heading out for Holy Week amid Manila’s rising temperatures.
