MANILA, Philippines – Two Philippine eagles, Carlito and Uswag, were released into the Anonang-Lobi mountain range of Leyte last June 28 as part of efforts to reintroduce the species (Pithecophaga jefferyi) into the area.
Just over a month after the release, Uswag was found dead at sea off Barangay Cawit in Pilar, Cebu.
Rappler was on the ground the day Carlito and Uswag flew free. What happened behind the scenes, and what was the day like for the conservationists who took care of the eagles for months?
In this The Green Report episode, environment editor Jee Geronimo talks to reporter Iya Gozum and production specialist Errol Almario about the release of the eagles and the Rappler documentary, Araw ng Paglaya ng Philippine eagles na sina Carlito at Uswag.
