MANILA, Philippines – JYP Entertainment announced its plans to pursue legal action against those behind deepfake (AI-generated) videos of its girl group TWICE.
The management on Friday, August 30, released an English statement on TWICE’s social media accounts, saying that they are “gravely concerned” about the recent spread of deepfake videos involving its artists.
“This is a blatant violation of the law, and we are in the process of collecting all relevant evidence to pursue the strongest legal action with a leading law firm, without leniency,” the label said.
JYP Entertainment also emphasized that they will “not stand by while [their] artists’ rights are violated.”
JYP Entertainment is the latest agency to pursue legal action against fabricated photos and malicious posts concerning its artist. In July, Woollim Entertainment announced that they filed their first round of criminal complaints after compiling malicious posts and fabricated photos of soloist Kwon Eun-bi.
Recently, South Korean media reported that sexually explicit deepfake images and videos of South Korean women are circulating in domestic Telegram chatrooms.
Authorities said that they plan to ask Telegram and other social media platforms to be more proactive in deleting and blocking this deepfake content, with the Korean National Police Agency also saying it will make a seven-month push to crack down on online sex crimes. – Rappler.com
