MANILA, Philippines – The first low pressure area being monitored by the weather bureau already left the Philippine Area of Responsibility around 12 am on Tuesday, September 10, while the second LPA, located outside PAR, developed into a tropical depression at 8 am.

The first LPA was already 710 kilometers north northeast of Itbayat, Batanes — outside PAR — as of 2 pm on Tuesday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) earlier said the LPA is not expected to affect the country.

Meanwhile, the newly developed tropical depression outside PAR was last spotted 2,230 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas on Tuesday afternoon.

PAGASA Weather Specialist Veronica Torres said the tropical depression could enter PAR on Thursday, September 12, or Friday, September 13. Its local name would be Ferdie.

Even before the tropical depression’s entry into PAR, however, its trough or extension will already affect the eastern part of Mindanao.

In particular, Caraga and the Davao Region will have scattered rain and thunderstorms from the trough of the tropical depression in the next 24 hours.

PAGASA warned the two regions to watch out for possible flash floods and landslides.

Later in the week, the tropical cyclone could also enhance the southwest monsoon or habagat.

For the rest of Tuesday until Wednesday, September 11, much of the country will have generally fair weather, but the southwest monsoon may cause isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. – Rappler.com
